Confidently Taking Baby Out in Cold Weather
We all know it can be intimidating to head out into the cold with your newborn, but you can do it with a few simple tips!
Add One More Layer
First, a good rule of thumb is that your baby needs the same amount of clothing you’re wearing plus one more layer on top of what they have on.
Extra layers we recommend:
-
Beanies to keep baby's head warm.

- A thick sweater over their inside clothes.

-
Mittens to cover their tiny hands.

Cold Weather Does Not Equal a Cold
Babies don’t get sick from cold weather, they get sick from germs. Keep a hand sanitizer close by so that you (or others) don’t pass germs to the baby.
Baby-wearing Is the Way to Go!
The best way to go out with baby is to wear them to share body heat, any carrier will do. Put them in the carrier and add an extra layer, like a beanie and a small quilt over top of them.
The best blankets to bring on a walk (pro tip - grab them in size small):
-
Muslin quilts are 9 layers of cotton muslin and surprisingly thick and lightweight.

-
Chenille blankets are gushy and cozy for cold days.

-
Cozy blankets are heavy and have a soft minky backing that babies love.

Mom, Add a Jacket
If you’ll be outside for an extended amount of time, put on a large jacket that will cover you and baby and then replace the blanket over top of both of you.
You Got This!
Now you’re ready to face the colder temps and get some much-need fresh air to boost your spirits.
Make sure to save this if you’re expecting this fall and winter or send to a friend who could use this advice for their baby!
