Newborn Prep Checklist
Things are getting real and baby will be here so soon! As the countdown begins, it’s natural to wonder what you should start prepping first. From setting up the crib to organizing those tiny clothes, a few simple steps can make those first days at home feel calm, cozy, and ready for every snuggle.
Here’s a quick checklist to help you feel prepared and confident before your little one arrives.
1. Crib or Bassinet Assembled + Mattress Set Up
Start with your baby’s sleep space. It’s the heart of your nursery. Make sure your crib or bassinet is safely assembled, mattress fitted snugly with a silky-soft crib sheet, and ready for those first naps and long nights ahead. A clean, simple setup is all you need at first.

2. Dresser/Changing Table Stocked with Diapers, Wipes, Cream, and Burp Cloths
Keep your diapering essentials close and organized -- our Lou Lou Baby Caddy is the best way! Stock your changing station with plenty of diapers, gentle wipes, diaper cream, and a stack of Cloud Muslin Burp Cloths for quick cleanups. Having everything within reach makes those late-night changes a little easier.

3. Organize Clothes by Size (NB, 0–3M, 3–6M) and Wash a Handful in Newborn-Safe Detergent
Sort your baby’s clothes by size to make dressing easy in those sleepy early weeks. Wash a small batch of newborn pieces in a gentle, baby-safe detergent. It’ll keep everything soft, fresh, and ready for their delicate skin. We recommend Knotted Gowns so baby is comfortable and to make those midnight diaper changes a breeze!

4. Stock Up on Swaddles (2–3 You Love), Sound Machine, and Blackout Curtains
Create a calm sleep environment with a few silky-soft Lou Lou Swaddles, a white noise machine, and blackout curtains. Together, they help signal rest time and make your baby’s space feel cozy and secure, day or night.

5. Finish Setting Up Your Feeding Corner
Whether you’re breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or a mix of both, set up a comfortable corner for those quiet moments. Add a supportive chair, a cozy blanket (Chenille Blankets are our fave!), and a small table for water, snacks, and burp cloths. You’ll spend more time here than you think, so make it peaceful and easy to settle into.

Just remember - you still have time! But it doesn't hurt to start prepping early. I can't tell you how helpful it was to have everything organized and ready for my babies and for myself when I came home from the hospital. It really makes all the difference!
xo, Karen
