What's In the Bag?
So you're headed to the hospital soon! After having 5 kids of my own, I have gotten my hospital bag down to a science. As it turns out, I have found that I pack more for myself than I do for baby! Let me explain...

FOR MOM:
-
A comfy outfit to show up in and go home in
Choose something soft, loose, and easy to move in — think our Knit Sets or Everyday Dress that will still feel good on your postpartum body when it’s time to head home.
-
A lightweight, knit robe
Perfect for staying warm but not overheated, a soft robe gives you comfort and coverage during feedings, visitors, or skin-to-skin.
-
Nursing bras + breast pads
Bring a few nursing-friendly bras that are comfortable enough to sleep in, and add some disposable or washable breast pads to stay dry between feeds, or to keep nipple cream from getting on your nursing bra.
-
Underwear + post-birth bathroom essentials
Pack a few pairs of high-waisted, breathable underwear along with postpartum must-haves like pads, wipes, and a peri bottle — most hospitals will have some, but it’s nice to have your favorites on hand.
-
A cheap pair of slides or flip flops
Hospital floors aren’t the coziest, and having an easy pair of slip-on shoes makes quick trips to the bathroom or showers much simpler (and cleaner!). Plus, you won't feel guilty tossing them in the trash once you're discharged.
-
A comfy change of clothes for after your first shower
There’s nothing like that first shower after birth. Bring a fresh, soft outfit so you can feel clean, cozy, and a little more like yourself again.
-
Toiletries
Pack your everyday basics: toothbrush, face wash, deodorant, and a few skincare and makeup favorites — to help you feel refreshed and grounded between feedings and rest.
-
Ear plugs and/or eye mask
Hospitals can be bright and noisy, so these small comforts can make a big difference when you’re trying to sneak in some much-needed rest.
-
Hard candy to suck on during labor
When you’re not allowed food but need something to help with dry mouth or nausea, a few pieces of hard candy can be a real lifesaver.
-
Nipple cream
Even if you don’t end up needing it right away, a soothing nipple balm can bring instant relief as your body adjusts to those early days of breastfeeding.

FOR BABY:
-
Baby's First Outfit + an Extra
This might be the most important thing to bring, for those precious first photos and snuggles. Lou Lou Newborn Bundles are designed to be baby's first outfit all-in-one with a swaddle, outfit, and accessory for the perfect first moments! Bring an extra one just in case of spit-ups or diaper leaks (because it happens!).
-
Swaddle Blanket
A soft, stretchy Lou Lou Swaddle helps your baby feel calm and secure — perfect for cuddles, naps, and those first hospital photos. It’s one of the most comforting things you can pack for your newborn.
-
No-scratch Mittens
Tiny newborn nails can be surprisingly sharp! A pair of no-scratch mittens keeps your baby’s face protected while they wiggle and stretch.
-
Name Tag
That first name tag moment is so special. It’s a sweet way to mark your baby’s arrival and makes a darling photo keepsake to remember their first day earth-side.
-
Pacifiers
If you plan to use them, bring one or two newborn pacifiers for soothing during hospital stays — they can help calm your little one between feeds or while settling down to sleep.

There are lots of items that the hospital provides, like diapers, water bottles, underwear, formula, etc. I love to use everything they provide because it takes the pressure off of me to pack!
And don't forget to have your spouse pack their bag too! We often forget that they need to be ready for delivery too, and we've gathered the items that they should bring here.
xo, Karen
